How to use REED VC-05 Loop Calibrator

Current output with Reed VC05
For current output function connect one end of the test leads to the +mA -output jack of the calibrator (I/O terminals) and connect the other end with the input of the user’s instrument. Switch the calibrator into the output mode by pressing the key “OUTPUT/IN/SW” and select the mA or % scale. Now your instrument are ready for current output. Using the current output function, with Reed VC05 another features such 25% Step Current Output, Auto-ramp, Simulating Transmitter Output(XMT) or Current Output Set For Zero Point & Full Scale are also easy to use and set.

During the operation of the current output, try your best to use the external 24VDC power supply in a mode of connecting a transmitter, thus being able to prolong the working life of the battery.

Calibrator Measurement

For To measure the DC Current with Reed Loop Calibrator VC05 starts with connect the output of the user’s instrument to the calibrator, using the test leads. Using the “OUTPUT/IN?SW button, switch the instrument into INPUT mode and select the input to be set in mA or %. The calibrator starts measurements, and then the symbol ‘ON’ appears in the display followed by the result of measurements. Measuring DC Voltage will be available after inserting the test leads into the V input jack of the calibrator and select the V function.

Providing 24V Power Supply For Measuring Loop Current
Insert the test lead into the +LOOP & mA input jacks of the calibrator. When the key [OUTPUT/ IN/SW] is pressed, the symbol ‘INPUT’ appears in the display. It denotes that the calibrator is in an input state. After choosing the scale ,mA or mA% (0% denotes 4mA and the value of 100% denotes 20mA), the calibrator starts measurements, and then the symbol ‘ON’ appears in the display.

Measuring Switching contact Status
Insert one end of the test lead into the switching contact measuring jack of the calibrator and connect the other end to the switching contact of the user’s instrument. When the key〔OUTPUT / IN/ SW〕is pressed, the display indicates the symbol ‘INPUT’ followed by the word ‘CLOSE’ or ‘OPEN’ according to the measured switching contact status. When the switching resistance exceeds 15KΩ, the contact is regarded as an off state.

How to use the Reed VC04 Voltage and current simulator

Power-on/off of Calibrator
To turn on the power supply of Reed VC04 voltage and current simulator by pressing the power key. Now the instrument starts a quick self-diagnosis internally test and the full screen is in display. After this short period of time, appropriate operation should be carried out. With the Automatic power-off function active, if there is no operation of the calibrator within a period of 10 minutes after power-on it will cut off the power supply automatically. You can deactivate this function any time.

DC voltage output
Before starts voltage output, you need to connect one end of the test lead into the VC04’s output jack and insert the other end to the input of your instrument that will be tested. The instrument starts a quick test and if all will be fine, will display “OUTPUT” symbol on its LCD display. Now the calibrator is in an output state. Using the arrow keys you can choose the set digits for output and change the value of the set digits. Press the key〔ON/OFF〕to turn on or turn off the output, and the display indicates the symbol ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’.

The appropriate output terminal of the calibrator produces the DC voltage and current set by the user or simulating a transmitter. During the operation, do not apply voltage to the output terminal. If any improper voltage is applied to the output terminal, it will cause damage to the internal circuit.

DC current output
Insert one end of the test lead into the +mA- output jack of the calibrator and connect the other end to the input of the user’s instrument. Press the key〔V/mA〕to select the mA function and display the unit ‘mA’.Press the key〔mA/ %〕to select the output to be set in mA or % and display the unit ‘mA%’, in which 0% is 4mA and 100% is 20mA.Using the arrow keys you can choose the set digits for output and change the value of the set digits. Press the key 〔ON/OFF〕 to turn on/off the output followed by displaying the symbol ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’.

25% of step current output
After you have connected the test leads in the same way as any DC current output tests, select the mA function by pressing the (V/mA) key and choose ‘mA” or “mA%” scale. Using the Reed VC04’s arrows keys change the output value of 25% in which 0% denotes 4mA and 100% denotes 20mA. Now press the key〔mA 25% again to exit the step current output. You can turn on or off the output by using the (ON/OFF) button.

Simulating Transmitter output (absorption current)
Connect one end of the test lead into the XMT output jack of the calibrator and the other end to the input of the user’s instrument and the power supply as shown in the following diagram. The key operation is the same as that of DC current output in subsection 5.2.
Please note that the range of power supply is from 5 to 25VDC. During the operation at the current output, try your best to use an external 24VDC power source in a mode of connection with a transmitter, thus being able to prolong the battery life.
