Calibration

1. Open the cover plate & place 2-3 drops of distilled water onto the prism surface, close the cover plate, press lightly & ensure the water spreads evenly across the whole surface area without air bubbles or dry sections. (wait 30seconds until the water adjusts to ambient temperature)

2. Hold towards light source & look into the eyepiece, if the boundary line between the upper blue field & the lower white field is not located exactly on the 0°C waterline, adjust the correcting screw until both lines meet.

3. Wipe the water from the prism with clean dry cloth & replace the rubber correcting screw cover.

NOTE: under normal operating conditions the calibration only needs to be checked periodically

Maintenance

1. If the ambient temperature is not within the automatic temperature compensation range (10 – 30°C) the instrument must be calibrated before testing commences.

2. The prism must be cleaned thoroughly with a soft, clean damp cloth after each use – failure to do so will result in inaccurate readings & possible long term damage

3. The instrument must be kept in a dry clean environment to prevent condensation forming on the optical components

4. If used in accordance with the instructions & all warning are followed – the optical performance will remain constant & the instrument will give many years of reliable service.

How to use Refrigerant Gas Leak Detector (C-380)

Power-Up & Reset the instrument
Press ON/OFF once to turn on the refrigerant leak detector. The sensor will heat up for 1.5 minutes and you have to wait for proper functionality. Press the ON/OFF again to reset the ambient concentration for the unit. After this time reset the ambient concentration for the unit by pressing the ON/OFF button again.

Sensitivity Adjustment
When the unit is switched ON it is set to high sensitivity by default. To change the level of sensitivity to LOW, press the “Lo Sensitivity” button. To switch the unit back to high sensitivity, press the “Hi Sensitivity” button

Automatic Ambient Setup
This “ambient concentration reset function” sets the unit sensors to ignore the ambient concentrations of refrigerant present. When turned ON the unit’s sensor, the instrument using itsAutomatic Ambient Setupto set itself to ignore the level of refrigerant present at the tip. Only a level or concentration great than this will cause the unit to alarm. During the gas leak operations, resetting the instrument using the Ambient Reset Feature programs the circuit to ignore the level of refrigerant present at the tip of the sensor.

Measuring gas leak with C-380 instrument
Find out the suspected leak source and position the tip of the sensor probe within 1/4 inch (6 mm) of this. Slowly move the sensor probe past each possible leakage point. When the unit detects a leak source an audible tone will sound and visual indicators will light on the LED leak indicator display, appearing from left to right. The visual indicator will be green to orange to red (red being the highest concentration, green the lowest). When the unit signals a leakage, pull the probe away from the leak for a moment and then bring it back slowly to pinpoint the location. If the refrigerant leak is large setting the sensitivity switch to LOW (see sensitivity adjustment) will make it easier to find the exact site of the leak. Return the sensitivity switch to HIGH before searching for any additional leaks. When you’ve finished testing for leaks turn the unit OFF and store it in a cool, dry, clean place to protect the sensor and unit from any possible damage.
