The Reed R5004 Phase Sequence/Motor Rotation Tester is highly accurate and has an extremely fast response, great features that recommend it as a versatile tester when you need to check a motor's rotation direction without any contact.

REED R5004 Features

Tests phase orientation of 3-phase power sources

Indicates phase orientation (clockwise or counter-clockwise and whether each of the
three phases is live)

Also indicates direction of motor rotation

Determines motor rotation without contact

Easy to open alligator clips with wide jaws

Double molded housing

Cat. III 600V safety rating

Complete with cables with 3 colour-coded alligator clips, 9V battery and carrying case

How to use Reed R5004 Motor Rotation Tester

Determining the Rotary Field Direction
Make sure the L1,L2, and L3 test leads are connected to the corresponding input jacks. Connect the test probes to the other end of the test leads. Connect the test probes to the three main phases. Press the ON/OFF button. The green ON indicator shows that the instrument is ready for testing. Either the Clockwise or Counter Clockwise Rotary indicator will illuminate showing the type of rotary field direction present. The rotary indicator will light up even if the neutral conductor, N, is connected instead of the test lead input jack. See Phase Indication Table for more information (User manual).

Determining the Motor Connection
Connect one end of the test leads to the unit and the alligator clamps to the other end of the test leads. Connect the alligator clamps to the motor connections.Press the ON/OFF button. The green ON indicator shows that the instrument is ready for testing. Turn the motor shaft half a revolution towards the right. The bottom of this unit should be oriented towards the drive shaft. Either the Clockwise or Counter Clockwise Rotary indicator will illuminate showing the type of rotary field direction present.

Non-contact Rotary Field Indication
Put the Motor Rotation Tester on the motor so that it is parallel to the length of the motor shaft. The unit should be one inch or closer to the motor, and the bottom of the unit should be oriented towards the drive shaft. Press the ON/OFF button. The green ON indicator shows that the instrument is ready for testing. Either the Clockwise or Counter Clockwise Rotary indicator will illuminate showing the type of rotary field direction present.

Magnetic Field Detection
To detect a magnetic field, place this unit to a solenoid valve. A magnetic field is present if either the Clockwise or the Counter Clockwise Rotary indicator illuminates.
